Realization

I had a realization today. A 14 year old girl today with cystic fibrosis really changed my outlook on why I’m studying constantly and why I’m putting myself through med school in the first place. In my school, we have these patient perspectives, basically a patient comes in and talk about the disease that they have. I didn’t even know much about cystic fibrosis before today. But damn, she really hit me. These people pretty much suffers throughout their entire lives. I just couldn’t imagine going through what she was going through. She has to take 10 meds several times a day, pretty much poisoning her body to live a normal life like we do. I was surprised how she really tried hard to just live a normal life by going to school, and being in track, plays, etc. But the other people there were talking about how the life expectancy of people with cystic fibrosis is only about 30 and to get there is a constant battle of suffering. Like I couldn’t even imagine if someone said that to me, but she was sitting right there all calm and relaxed. Her mom was there and she was crying while she was telling my class of 270 people what it was like when she was born and her childhood.

This is the reason why I signed up for this.

Busy week

This week, I found out that I have to present a case next week. Case is about a patient showing hyperthyroidism symptoms. Need to work on this, so my partner and I can meet with the professor before the presentation. I’m sort of glad that I get to go first to get it out of the way, but I hate public speaking… Ugh.

This week, I received the items I ordered during Black Friday deals from Amazon. Got Braveheart, Terminator Salvation, and Mad Men: Season 1 on blu ray. I also received the first season of King of Queens, which is a show that is one of my favorites as of now. I saw a few reruns on tv, and its hysterical, so I decided to order Season 1-6. It was on sale for Cyber Monday for $10 each, I couldn’t help it… :)

Also, my Christmas present from my parents showed up this past Tuesday as well. I received the Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Wheel. I’ll post some pictures of my set up in a bit, but its a great present. I just bought Forza Motorsports 3 on Black Friday for $20 off the normal price and this goes really well with it. I played for about an hour total, because school gets in the way, but so far, its definitely immersive. Its much much harder to play the game compared to the controller, but its so much fun.

Back to hyperthyroidism.

New blog

I think I’ll try the whole blogging thing again. I created this blog several years ago, thought I’d restart it. Should be interesting. I’ll add more later.
